IPD for Meter-Wave Applications

Introduction

At meter-wave frequency, passive devices get bulky due to their much longer wavelength compared to ~GHz RF applications. Distributed design is prohibitively large at ~100MHz for many applications. To get compact device at meter-wave frequency for applications such as broadcasting, sub-1GHz, clock distribution, heterodyned IF circuits, IPD (Integrated Passive Device) is a perfect candidate and has shown great size reduction capability compared to traditional solutions, either distributed design or designs using SMT discrete components.

Xpeedic provides full kinds of passive devices with IPD technology, including filters, baluns, couplers, attenuators and etc. with packages such as LGA, wire-bonding/flip-chip die, WLCSP and etc. A selection of the devices for meter-wave application is introduced in this note.

Packaging

Besides delivered as IPD dies ready for integration into SiP (System in Package) module, IPD devices can also be packaged into LGA SMT devices for PCB level usage, for these meter-wave application IPDs.
